The Week in Review is where I combine Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It's Monday! What are you reading?  If you have never joined in on these meme's you can check them out by clicking on the meme and it will take you to the host blog.

Hi everyone! A tad bit cooler this week and this coming week look like it might be pretty nice with the temps. I wish it would just stay in the 70s all the time.

The weeks seem to fly by these days, and I can't believe we are already in the latter half of August!

I had an original Jurassic Park trilogy weekend and watched all three and it was a lot of fun. :)

How was your week? Hope it was full of wonderful reads!

What I Read:

  • Bury Me Deep - I am about to give up on this one as it is really boring, but I only have 78 pages left. :/
  • Battle Mask - So I started a fun cheesy book to make up for the boring one :)

What I Am Reading:

  • Side Jobs - Fun group of short stories from the Dresden world. :)
  • The Lost Duke of Wyndham - This was a good one!
  • The Cold People - Not a favorite of the Spooksville series but it was fun.
What I Might Read Next

  • Aftermath - My last book for the Keep Me In Suspense readathon I am participating in where you read Christian Suspense.
  • Minor In Possession - The next installment in the J.P. Beaumont series and can't wait to start it! I am really liking this series.

Week In Review #127

The Week in Review is where I combine Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It's Monday! What are you reading?  If you have never joined in on these meme's you can check them out by clicking on the meme and it will take you to the host blog.

Wow, it turned off really hot this week, we have been in a heat advisory for most of it and continue on till Tuesday. Still, I am not looking forward to the colder months ahead.

I am trying to think of anything to chat about but I lead such a drab boring life I can't think of anything. I did watch a few more movies. I watched Suburban Commando (Hulk Hogan, Christopher Lloyd), Eye of the Tiger (Gary Busey) and Diplomatic Immunity (Bruce Boxleitner)

Hope you have a great week and happy reading!

What I Read:

  • Death Squad - The second book in the old school men's adventure series The Executioner, cheesy fun and packed full of action!
  • Standoff - First book in the Natchez Trace Park Ranger series. It's Christian suspense and it was pretty decent. New to me author.
Kind of two very different reads for last week...lol.

What I Am Reading:

  • Side Jobs - Collection of Dresden File short stories and they are fun. I don't normally like short stories but when they are from a character you like it's not so bad.
  • Lost Duke of Wyndham - First book in a two-book series. I am really enjoying it.
  • Bury the Deep - So far this is just an okay book, not really much happening.

What I Might Read Next

  • The Cold People - The fifth book in the Spooksville series.

Two Bloggers, One Series ~ Sweet Laurel Falls (Hope's Crossing #3)

Welcome back to Hope's Crossing! This is a contemporary romance that I Feel needs to be read in order so that you can get the full extent of the drama. 😊 Once you see what I have to say go on over to Booker T's Farm and see what Barb thought!

Spring should bring renewal, but Maura McKnight-Parker cannot escape the past. Still reeling from the loss of one daughter, the former free spirit is thrown for a loop by the return of her older daughter, Sage, and the reappearance of her first love, Sage's father. Jackson Lange never knew his daughter—never even knew that he'd left the love of his life pregnant when he fled their small town—but he has never forgotten Maura.

Now they are all back, but Sage has her own secret, one that will test the fragile bonds of a reunited family. Thrown together by circumstances and dedicated to those they love, Maura and Jackson must learn to move forward and let go of the mistakes of their past for the bright future that awaits them and their friends in Hope's Crossing.

So in this third book it starts out at Christmas as Maura deal's with the first one without her youngest daughter and her oldest coming home from College. She is trying to make things feel like Christmas but emotions tumble out when Sade returns but with the father she didn't know about in toe. So it seems like it's a case of like father like daughter as Sade wants to be an architect and the father she never knew happened to be giving a lecture at her college. It didn't take long for a short chat between the two to figure out things.

Let the drama begin as Maura who is dealing with a lot already must deal with Jackson, her childhood sweetheart who is happy to find out he has a daughter but not so happy with Maura for never telling him. So now they are both bouncing around old feelings while dealing with a lot of other emotions too.

Jackson swore he would never come back to Hope's Crossing because of things his father did in regards to his mother, but now he is back and having to face his father. There are a lot of other side things happening, such as a new puppy, finding out who the angel of Hope's Crossing is and more.

Overall, I did enjoy this but I think I am just not a huge fan of the I didn't tell him about his child thing. Sade is in college, I can't believe Maura still hadn't told her who her father was, just because she was holding a grudge. It just tempered my enjoyment of the story some times. I do think my favorite character in this was Harry the grumpy father of Jackson.

I do think the series overall is great and if you like small town settings you will enjoy the series.

Week in Review #126

The Week in Review is where I combine Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It's Monday! What are you reading?  If you have never joined in on these meme's you can check them out by clicking on the meme and it will take you to the host blog.

The weeks seem to be flying by, it's just so hard to believe it's already the tenth of August. The dog days of summer are upon us and it sure is hot, one good thing is I haven't had to mow as no rain. We do need some rain though so hope it happens but not in the form of a nasty storm.

I watched a couple movies for what I am calling Action August. The first one was Setup starring Bruce Willis and 50 cents, wasn't a fan. Then an OG favorite Lethal Weapon that is totally a Christmas movie so might watch it again in December...lol. Then the last one I am still trying to figure out why as a teen I thought this movie was funny and watched it several times because I verily got through it and that was The Toxic Avenger from, I think 1984, OMG it was so bad, the extreme violence, cheesy over acted dialogue and well just everything. I know they are rebooting it but I probably won't watch it, but I am curious about the novelization being done for it. :)

Have a great week and happy reading!

What I posted this week:

Books I have hauled:

Nothing

Books I read:

  • Shoot Don't Shoot - Third book in the Joanna Brady series and probably my favorite one so far!
  • The Last Sleepover - The fifth book in the Goosebumps House of Shivers series and the best one so far! I think people will think it's super creepy.
  • The Haunted Mask - The eleventh book from the original Goosebumps and it was fun.
  • Primal Waters - The third book in the Meg series and probably my favorite so far.

Books I am Reading:

  • Sweet Laurel Falls - The third book in the Hopes Crossing series and a buddy read with Barb! I am enjoying and about 40% into it. It's going to be a bit of an emotional one, but I guess I can handle it...lol.
  • Unknown Threat - First book of the Defend and Protect series and Christian Fiction. I am enjoying it so far, I am 48% into it.

Two Bloggers One Series ~ Changes by Jim Butcher (Dresden Files #12)

We are still working out way though the Dresden Files. I can't believe we are on the 12th one! It's a dosey! I am really enjoying my reread through this series and it's been fun reading them with Barb so after you see what I say go on over to Booker T's Farm and see what she thought.

Long ago, Susan Rodriguez was Harry Dresden's lover-until she was attacked by his enemies, leaving her torn between her own humanity and the bloodlust of the vampiric Red Court. Susan then disappeared to South America, where she could fight both her savage gift and those who cursed her with it. Now Arianna Ortega, Duchess of the Red Court, has discovered a secret Susan has long kept, and she plans to use it-against Harry. To prevail this time, he may have no choice but to embrace the raging fury of his own untapped dark power. Because Harry's not fighting to save the world...

So this one is hard to review because way too many spoilers so this will be short.

The Red Court vampires are up to no good and causing trouble that could mess with the White Cousel. Harry's ex-girlfriend shows up with a surprise and he has to team up with her to fight against everything. It also involves Mab from fairy court which has consequences too.

This series has some of the funniest characters from animals to humans to maybe not humans. :) There are some great scenes with Mouse the rather large dog of Dresden's that was great. Then Sonja the Russian who works for the Knight of the Cross is back helping Dresden and teasing him a great deal about some things that happened, and it had me cracking up. Of course we have Molly, Murphy and Butters along with a lot of other fun characters that make this a great series.

Packed full of action which I love this one is named correctly as there are lots of changes coming for Harry and I left off the last line of the blurb because it's a spoiler that shouldn't be there, so don't look just go in blind it has more of an impact that way!

Highly recommend!

Feed Your TBR #8

It's time to FEED YOUR TBR and I have a couple books you might find interesting!! I am curious about these books though I may not be anticipating them. These picks are almost out so not a lot of waiting involved.  (Feed Your TBR is my version of Waiting on Wednesday now hosted by Wishful Endings)

Middle Grade

Perfect for fans of Lockwood & Co. and Serafina and the Black Cloak, Ryan James Black's debut THE DARK TIMES OF NIMBLE NOTTINGHAM, set during the World War II Blitz blackout, follows a 12-year-old orphan who accidentally unleashes a shadow monster onto the streets of London and must team up with an unlikely assembly of allies to hunt it down.

I thought this looked fun even though there isn't much to the blurb from goodreads. This comes out August 26th from Nancy Paulsen Books.

Adult

They say sharing is caring, but sharing a husband? That’s a grave mistake.

And Hell hath no fury like three widows with a murder to solve . . .

Albert Franklynn’s sudden and mysterious death leaves everyone in the pretty village of Monksworthy in shock — especially his wife Sylvie, who runs the local tearoom.

But the real surprise comes at the mortuary, where not one, but three grieving widows show up to identify his body.

It turns out that Albert wasn’t just a devoted husband to Sylvie . . . He had two other wives as well.

As everyone reels from the revelation of Albert’s double — or triple — life, three widows reluctantly team up to investigate a mystery more tangled than the village’s gaudy who killed Albert — and why.

It turns out Albert’s list of enemies is longer than the village bake sale sign-up sheet. Can these three unlikely sleuths resolve their differences to become partners in crime-solving . . . before the killer writes them out of the story for good?

The start of an unmissable cosy crime series, this gripping mystery about murder, mayhem and marital mischief is perfect for fans of Faith Martin, the Reverend Richard Coles, Kristen Perrin, Veronica Heley or Fiona Leitch.

Maybe cheating a bit as this one comes out today, but it's not like I am will be getting to it any time soon. I thought this one sounds like a fun cozy crime book. It is from Joffe Books.

What is a book you're wanting to read?

Hi everyone! How are we already in August! It's crazy! Though it's been hot I am not looking forward to the colder months coming closer...lol.

This week was a bit cooler if you consider 80s cooler...lol. It was nice though; I have been able to shut my AC off at night.

Watched a couple old school movies this past week. The Principal with Jim Belushi and Louis Gossett Jr. and Toy Soldier with Sean Astin and Louis Gossett Jr, it was a Louis Gossett Jr. double feature, and I didn't even plan it out...lol.

Hope you all had a great week and happy reading!
