Two Bloggers One Series ~ Triptych

Barb and are tackling another Karin Slaughter series, why do we torture outselves like this...lol. I am hoping since they decided to make a tv show based on it and that it's still an ongoing series from what I can tell that it will be better than the Grant County one. :) After you check out my thoughts go over and see Barb's at Booker T's Farm.

My thoughts:

Some brutal attacks and murder of women has  brought Special Agent Will Trent to Atlanta to help the police figure out who is commiting the crime. There are others trying to figure things out as well, there is a veteren cop Michael who has a bad temper, and a female cop Angie who has a whole mess of her own problems who actually knows Will.

Besides the police there is also the POV of an ex-con named John who was accused of murder twenty years ago and has had a horrible time in prison because it and is out to figure out who has been using his name while he was locked up.

As it seems to be in true Karin Slaughter style we have some very horrible crimes happening to women and some not so likeable characters that we have to follow to try and figure out what happens. Right away I think you can maybe pick up on who might be the killer as you follow this group of people who are trying to figure things out. At this point I am not even real sure I like Will Trent, but I do know that I am not a fan of Angie, Michael or John. I mean it's like she makes her characters out to be the worst of the worst but at the same time your suppose to try and root for them...lol.

All I can say is that I hope the series gets better as we go and that I like Will Trent more as we go since he is the main character. I actual hope that some of the other characters don't carry over to book two but I do still want to continue to see.

It makes me wonder how different the show is from the book series as this was very dark and brutal and the commericals for the show seems more humerous.

Oh I forgot to say this was a reread for me as I read it 2018 but never continued the series, but for once it was a book I could remember the killer but not a lot of other parts till I started reading it. I also feel that it allowed me to really concentrate on the characters bringing my review down from a 4 star originally to a 3 star this go around. Or my taste in things have just changed.

Week in Review #23

The Week in Review is where I combine Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It's Monday! What are you reading?  If you have never joined in on these meme's you can check them out by clicking on the meme and it will take you to the host blog.

Slowing getting over my cold. I still have a cough and a nose full of junk...lol. I get tired but overall I feel ten times better than the last time I talked to you all. :)

I have watched a lot of tv while sick as reading wasn't really a thing I wanted to do even though I did manage to listen to a good amount. I watched My Life is Murder season 3 on AcornTV, it's a fun cozy type mystery with Lucy Lawless. Watched some Midsomer Murders, Murder She Wrote and Columbo as well. :)

Have a great week and happy reading!

What you might have missed on my blog

Review of One of the Girls

Books I have added

 Nothing! :)

Books read last week

  • Captive Star - The second book in the Stars of Mithra series. It was a cheesy retro romance but I liked it. :)
  • Sapphire Flames - I really enjoyed this fourth enstallment of the Hidden Legacy series. The first three were about Nevada and Rogan, now we are with another sister for the next three Catalina and her guy Alessandro, it was different but the same as it's in the same world, etc. :)
  • Death Thread - Second book in the Southern Sewing Circle and I am liking it okay. A group I am in are doing a readalong of the series, one a month and so I am hoping it will get better as it goes. :)
  • Murder on St. Nicolas Avenue - Love the Gaslight series and this was #18 and a bit different since the mystery was solved by an ensemble of the family members or household staff while the two main chracters were gone.
  • Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again - Second book in the Chitty Chitty series, came a lot later than book one that was written by Ian Flemming, this one is written by Frank Cottrell Boyce, has a bit of the same feel of the first one but totally different characters and a camper van instead of the car. :)

Currently reading

  • An Immodest Proposal - I am almost done with it, it's a print book and with being sick I haven't been reading it, but it's getting done before Feb. is over!
  • Rules for Vanishing - Has a bit of mix media in it and reads really quick and even though your kind of confused at what is going on you can't quit listening or reading it. :) I just hope the end doesn't disappoint. 70% into it.
  • Triptych - This is a reread, Barb and I are attempting to read this series. I say attempting as I was suppose to read it last month but the hold line was forever and I just got it! The tv series has it popular again. 48% into it.
  • The Other Family - Thriller and I am only a little ways into it and not a clue what is going on, I mean I think it's about a family who moves to this town and someone is watching them, and I think that the mother of the family was someone who was suppose to have died a longtime ago or something as the guy who is watching them keeps refrerencing it and thinks her daughter looks like that person. I think...lol. 25% into it.
  • An Ambush of Widows - Another thriller and little confused with it too. It's about two guys who were killed but as far as their widows are concerned they didn't know each other. One was even suppose to be in NY and not is the city they were in. You also get the POV of the Hitman as he is after one of the ladies, but I have NO clue why yet...lol. 24% into it.

What might be up next

Probably some mysteries and middle grade as March is March Mystery Madness and Middle Grade March on youtube and I am a cohost for the mystery one and just like reading middle grade for the other. :)

Two Bloggers One Book ~ One of the Girls

I am trying to read more Thrillers this year so when a reading prompt for my new TBR game on my youtube channel was for a thriller with a number in the title I found this one. I have never read Lucy Clarke before so I thought I would give it a go and invited my friend Barb to read it with me.  We had mixed feelings but I think she did like it more than I did. Go check out her review on Booker T's Farm after you see what I thought. :)

It was supposed to be the perfect weekend away. Six very different women travel to a sun-soaked Greek island for a bachelorette trip, to celebrate Lexi’s upcoming wedding. From the glorious ocean views to the quaint tavernas and whitewashed streets, the vacation seems too good to be true. But dangerous undercurrents run beneath the sunset swims and midnight cocktails – because each of the women is hiding a secret. Someone is determined to make sure that Lexi’s marriage never happens – and that one of them doesn’t leave the island alive.

Gripping, twisty, and full of sun-soaked suspense, this timely thriller examines the joys of female friendship…as well as the deadly consequences when a relationship goes wrong.

So it's told from the POV of all 6 ladies and the chapters are short as they switch between the characters making it read a bit faster than I really think the pace was and I also think that the over all story was two long at 432 pages.

Lexi is marrying Ed, Eleanor's brother and so Lexi's friends Bree, Robin and Finn want to have a Hen party, sort of a weekend getaway. Lexi invites Eleanor her soon to be brother-in-law and Ana a new friend.

You soon find out that none of these ladies really have their acts together and that more than one have secrets and it was just to strange that these six people have their lives so entwined with each other, especially the new friend Ana and Eleanor since they are new to the group.

There is a narrator at times that is letting us know that something bad has happened on this weekend so you know someone is going to die you just don't know who or why and you just pretty much learn about each of these ladies and their relationship with each other as well as with Lexie.

There was really not that much thrilling about this book and I really didn't think that it was building up to much of anything and I got bored pretty quickly. This really felt more like a woman's fiction novel with a small element of thriller at the the end when everyrthing happens.

The ending I was not a huge fan of either because I feel it's a bit morally grey and it really wans't what I was expecting from the blurb of this book so felt a bit dupped. I can see where others might enjoy this more than me but just go in nowing it's a very slow build up to what happens as the killing doesn't even take place till almost the end and there was a point to where I was like is anything cool going to happen!

I am still trying to find out what type of thrillers are for me and this just wasn't one of them.

Week in Review #22

The Week in Review is where I combine Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It's Monday! What are you reading?  If you have never joined in on these meme's you can check them out by clicking on the meme and it will take you to the host blog.

The week started out okay but then I ended up with a head cold and I am not happy. I nose is so stopped up blah. Hope it is over quickly as it's messing up my reading!

Have a great week and happy reading!

Books I have added

The getting nothing streak is over...lol. I did really good with that streak. :)
  • Stalking Around the Christmas Tree - Love this series and this is a fun one because my friend Tiffany interviewed the author who is Julie Ann Lindsay and said how much she always wanted to be a victim in a cozy, so JAL made her the victim in this book! She is so excited...lol.
  • A Rogue for the Dutiful Duchess - Been reading lots of romance so I might have checked out what was coming out and grabbed a couple...lol.
  • The Night She Met the Duke - I know nothing about it I just like historicals...lol.

Books read last week

  • One of the Girls - Another Thriller flop for me, it was kind of slow and more of a women's fiction with a side of thriller as it wasn't very thrilling till the last little section. 2 stars.
  • The Game is a Footnote - The latest book in the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop and I enjoyed it! 4 stars.
  • The Forbidden Lord - Second book in the Lord trilogy and it was a lot of fun! 4 stars.
  • The Ladies of Missalonghi - Not much of a romance for a romance book and kind of boring. 2 stars.
  • Death by the Dozen - The third book in the Cupcake Bakery series and it was okay. This has just been a okay series for me so far. 3.5 stars.

Currently reading

  • The Immodest Proposal - I thought I would get this one finished but then the cold happened and print reading just went out the window.
  • Daughter of Marignac - This one is going a bit slow.
  • Death Thread - Need to have it done by the weekend so it will be the one I work on the most.
  • Captive Star - Second book in the Stars of Mithra series and would like to get it read before the month is over so getting started on it now.
  • Sapphire Flames - Buddy read with Barb, just getting started.

What might be up next

Besides it being a bit of a wet week, I am enjoying this warmer February. It's weird as I don't remember it being in the 50s during Feb. I will take it. :)

Don't have anything to say...lol.

Have a great week and happy reading!

Don't Close the Door Review

Books I have added

Nothing! The Streak continues. I am just not seeing anything worth grabbing I guess. I am being more selective trying to work with the NG books I have that I haven't read. :)

Books read last week

  • The Pirate Lord - I had fun with this one! It makes me want to read the other two books in the trilogy.
  • Romancing Mister Bridgerton - I really liked this one! It's probably my second favorite in the series so far.
  • The Quiche of Death - Agatha Raisin is a bit brusque in her manners and I can see why some don't like her, but I had fun with it.
  • The Aven Green series - This is a cute series about a girl born with no arms and how she doesn't let that stop her from doing things.

Currently reading

  • Daughter of Marignac - This one is a bit slow going, the print is real small and taking a while to get to the main point lots of set up. On page 64 of 312
  • An Immodest Proposal - This one on the other hand reads faster and has my attention more than the other print book. On page 84 of 238.
  • One of the Girls - Thriller about 6 women at a Hen party (aka bacholerette weekend) someone in the group doesn't want the MC to get married and someone ends up dead. You know someone is dead you just don't know who as you go through the book. Buddy reading this with Barb and she liked it so fingers crossed! I have 5 hours at 1.5x speed to go.

What might be up next

  • The Ladies of Missalonghi - Not read this author but curious to try her and this is a lot shorter than Thorn Birds. :)

Review of Don't Open the Door

I received this book for a fair and honest from Netgalley and the publisher.

A child is shot while playing video games at home. His mother will stop at nothing to find out who did it—and why.

After their ten-year-old son, Chase, was senselessly murdered, Regan's life unraveled. Her corporate lawyer husband, Grant, blamed the death on Regan’s work as a US marshal. Unable to reconcile their grief, they divorced, and Regan quit her job and moved away.

Now she's back after a voice mail from her former boss Tommy said he had important news to share about Chase’s killing. Regan is stunned to learn Tommy is dead too. When she reaches out to Grant, his panicked reaction raises her suspicions. Then a lawyer with ties to her ex also turns up murdered, and the police make Grant their top suspect.

Unsure of his guilt or innocence, Regan risks everything to find Grant before the police do so she can finally get the answers to all that has haunted her since losing Chase. But the truth is not even close to what she imagines—and now she fears she has no one to trust.

So when I read The Sorority Murders last year I got the impression it was a stand alone and then seen that it was changed into a series now staring the ex US marshal Regan that we met in the first book.

In the first book we find out about her son dying and why she was not a marshall any more so in this one we are getting those answers that we might have had about why he was killed and whodunit. As Regan was never really sure it was because of her job, but it broke up her marriage and turned her world upside down and she needs answers. When a friend who was looking into things is murdered it's time for Regan to step up and find out for herself what exactly happened.

That is about all I can say about this book as I feel like it's all spoilers...lol. I enjoyed this book well enough but it really doesn't have the same tone as the first book. I think that is because the first book was about a young man with a podcast searching for a killer and using the podcast so therefore you got a lot of podcast fun (especially on audiobook). It went quicker too as the pacing was faster.

In this one it's just Regan against the world or close to it...lol. No fun podcast, just 400 pages of a mother trying to find out the truth and while I found it interesting and want to know what happened I also found it to be a lot slower in pace and a bit to long.

I love Regan and weather this was just an extra book to wrap up what happen to Chase or if it will continue on as a series it's still worth reading. If it continues so will I but it also wraps up nicely.

Week in Review #20

The Week in Review is where I combine Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It's Monday! What are you reading?  If you have never joined in on these meme's you can check them out by clicking on the meme and it will take you to the host blog.

A very cold week, and I want the warm weather back. How are you all in the north handling the cold, because we had just a small ice storm at the beginning of the week and it was in the 20s and I was done with winter. I must say just keep that weather up north...lol. :)

Other than being cold not a lot happened here!

Have a great week and happy reading!

Books I have added

Nothing! Trying to be super picky this year. So far it's working but the it's early in the year...lol.

Books read last week

  • Secrets in the Stacks - This is the second book in the Survivor's Club series and it was okay but I liked the first one more.
  • Snazzy Cat Capers - This was a cute short kids book.
  • Don't Open the Door - The second book in the Regan Merritt series and I enjoyed it.

Currently reading

  • Daughter of Marignac - Just started this one so only 32 pages, it's a print book so takes me a while as I don't read that small print so good these days!
  • The Pirate Lord - This one along with the first book I am reading for the Retro Romance Readathon. I am liking it. I should finish this one tomorrow.
  • Death Threads - Book two in the Southern Sewing Circle, can only get it on my phone which sucks, so will take me a while to read this one too. I hate when Libby books are read only on Libby. :(
