Two Bloggers One Series ~ Storm Front (The Dresden Files #1)

Okay so I have read this entire series, or at least up to what has been published as it's not finished. I am still ticked off at the author for what he did in the lastest book, but it is one of my favorite series. It had been a long time since I read book one and I have been talking about a reread and one of my Youtube subscriber/discord friends, Amy, wanted to reread the series and asked if I would want to and I said yes! So I dragged Barb along with me though I didn't have to tug on  her to hard...lol. So don't forget to check out her review at Booker T's Farm after you read mine.

HARRY DRESDEN — WIZARD

Lost Items Found. Paranormal Investigations. Consulting. Advice. Reasonable Rates. No Love Potions, Endless Purses, or Other Entertainment.

Harry Dresden is the best at what he does. Well, technically, he's the only at what he does. So when the Chicago P.D. has a case that transcends mortal creativity or capability, they come to him for answers. For the "everyday" world is actually full of strange and magical things—and most don't play well with humans. That's where Harry comes in. Takes a wizard to catch a—well, whatever. There's just one problem. Business, to put it mildly, stinks.

So when the police bring him in to consult on a grisly double murder committed with black magic, Harry's seeing dollar signs. But where there's black magic, there's a black mage behind it. And now that mage knows Harry's name. And that's when things start to get interesting.

Magic-It can get a guy killed.

Harry is the only wizard in the Chicago phone book and he is also very low on funds. He ends up taking a missing husband case and not long after than Murphy, a police detective who has used his help on cases before calls and needs him to come check something out.

Harry helps on occasion when there is something very strange going on with a case, they are reluctant to use his help, but sometimes it can't be helped. Especially when the murder victim this time has had his heart explode.

So Harry gets involved in some things that could very well get him in a lot of trouble too as he is not on the good side of the wizard council anyway and some think he could be the person doing the killings. Then it seems the missing husband could be into things that are not good and might be connected to what is happening with the other case.

I love Harry he is snarky and fun. He has a lot of interesting friends and acquantinces. I love Toot Too the little fairy who loves pizza, Bob the talking skull, Mister and more. I will admit that I couldn't remember a lot of what happened in this one. I forgot how much the counsil didn't like him, especially the guy who is suppose to be watching over him. Just little things that as there are currently 17 books you kind of forget, so I am really excited to be rereading this series.

If you like this series and like audiobooks, I really suggest you give the audiobooks a try as James Marster (Spike from Buffy) is awesome as Harry!

Week in Review #87

How was your week? What did you get?The Week in Review is where I combine Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It's Monday! What are you reading?  If you have never joined in on these meme's you can check them out by clicking on the meme and it will take you to the host blog.

Wow, is the whole US hot or what! Now I like summer but I am not ready for 90s to 100s just yet. I really am a nice 70s to low 80s kind of gal. Thank goodness for the AC. :)
I didn't do anything spectacular to chat about last week so I have nothing to talk about...lol.
Have a great week and happy reading!

Books I have added

  • Death in a Scottish Castle - Book 4 of the Scottish Ladies Detective Agency. I have enjoyed this series so had to grab the new one from Netgalley! Thanks Netgalley and Bookouture!

Books read last week

  • Methods of Malice - Book #7 in the Hope Street Church mystery series. Set around a bible studdy group, but I wouldn't call this series Christian Fiction, it just has a church as it's setting. I have really enjoyed this series. I pretty much like all of Ellery Adams series that I have read.
  • Bar - 20 - Well, it was a western so it had action in it but I don't really have a lot to say about it. I don't think I am going to turn into a western fan but reading them on occasion isn't to bad.
  • Mari and the Curse of El Cocodrilo - This was a cute middle grade story with Cuban mysthology.
  • The Stranger in the Library - This is the 11th book in the Lighthouse Library series and one of my favorite series so I really enjoyed it. Now I am all caught up again.

Currently reading

  • While Still We Live - This one readathon I am doing isn't giving me time for this book but I am on page 145 of 444. I am not sure what I think of this one as it's more centered around WWII than her first book was and I am not much on war books.
  • The Missing Body - I don't often sign up for tours but I like this author and the publisher so I did and now I need to make sure I get it read in time and July is fast approaching so I had to get started on it. I don't make a enough time these days for eyeball reading...lol. I am about 8% into the eARC.
  • Peaches and Scream - This was for a readalong I am doing with a cozy mystery youtube group. I am almost finished which is good because we discuss it today...lol.

What might be up next

Not sure, but I do have one other western I would like to try and get in for June on the Range if I can.

Howdy everyone!! Hope everyone had a great week! My week wasn't to bad. It is starting to get a bit hotter than I like but I am not complaining as I prefer sweat to shivering...lol. (I can take a shower to cool down but in the winter I can't put on enough clothes to keep me warm...lol)

So back on the trying to lose weight thing and decided I like carbs to much to get rid of them so been watching this somewhat silly lady on youtube (her YT is Nicole Collet, in case your curious) who did portion control to lose weight and make sure she was in a calorie deficit but she still eats yummy foods! So that is what I am trying, it's a bit tedious but I figure it will get easier. Anyway since I have started doing this it's been about a week and a half, I have gone down 3 pounds so it's a start! :)

I don't think I watched anything new, I have been watching Perry Mason a lot. I think reading the books has got me more interested in the show. :)

Have a great week and happy reading!

Books read last week

  • Scarewaves - Spooky little middle grade story that was fun.
  • Storm Front - Rereading the Dresden Files and refreshing my mind of how the series all began as it's been a while...lol.
  • Of Hoaxes and Homicides - I started this one a few months ago but got bored, tried the audiobook and it was much better that way. I still liked book one better.
  • Zombie Train - Last Kids on Earth meets Lord of the Flies (maybe not as bad but still). I liked it but the kids were very non emotional about other kids dying.
  • Case of the Sulky Girl - Book two in the Perry Mason series and I am really enjoying this series.
  • Crime and Parchment - Debut cozy mystery and I enjoyed it.
Currently reading

  • Bar - 20 - I didn't get a chance to work on this one last week. I am currently doing a readathon that drops prompts on you twice a week and you never know what it will be. It's messed up my reading...lol.
  • While Still We Live - I have read on this one a bit but still not yet half way. It is getting interesting though.
  • Methods of Malice - I have been wanting to get to this one for a while and I could have it read by this morning but I am putting here for now.

Two Bloggers One Series ~ Secrets in the Dark (Blackbird #2)

So we are continuing with the Blackbird trilogy, a series we can wrap up this year...wooo! Once you checked out my thoughts go see Barb at Booker T's Farm. (Can't get the link to work, sorry)

Over a century after Jack, a new Ripper is on the loose.

Following in the footsteps of notorious serial murderer Jack the Ripper, a killer is stalking the streets of London. The self-dubbed Ripper King strikes at night, leaving a trail of eviscerated bodies in his wake. Fresh off a case with potential ties to the recent rash of killings, FBI agents Della Hamilton and Mason Carter are all too familiar with a slayer set to rule with a lethal fist. And they’ll stop at nothing to end his reign.

The killer’s MO may be nothing new, but his desire to be infamous makes him dangerous. Della and Mason know it’s only a matter of time before their investigation emboldens this new Ripper, forcing the agents to work quickly before another woman winds up dead. But now that the heat is on, their game of cat and mouse takes an unexpected turn, leading Della and Mason into a deadly trap they never saw coming…

-------------------------------------------

So Mason and Della are fresh of the Vampire killing case and now in London to work on another gruesome case involving someone who is doing Jack the Ripper style kills. They are urging young women to never be alone and don't let any charming gentlemen lead you off, but it's not stopping the guy who has dubbed himself the Ripper King. They are sure he is some how linked to the Vampire case but that guy isn't talking.

Della and Mason have teamed up with some from Scotland Yard since it could be linked to their other case and there is a young woman ghost who is trying to help them as well. The killer is pretty devious and he might have his sights set on Della!

I really like Della and Mason, they work well together both at work and as a romance. I also like the other secondary characters in this as the teaming up has been working great. I am very curious to read the next book.

Week in Review #85

We finally had some nice sunny days it was great! I am sick of storms. We have one that is suppose to happen today. I hope it doesn't as our church was having a picnic after the service and I would hate for everyone to prepare something then it storms. *fingers crossed*

Have a great week and happy reading!

Books I have added

  • The Missing Body - I have enjoyed thrillers from this author before so I am hoping I will enjoy this one.
  • The Confidence Games - I am hoping this one is going to be as fun as it sounded. Couple of con artist friends, hoping it does't turn out to be to feminist as I don't care for those types of books.

Books read last week

  • Secrets in the Dark - The second book in the Blackbird Trilogy and I enjoyed it. I liked it more than book one.
  • The Case of the Velvet Claw - The first Perry Mason book and though he is a bit more morally gray than the tv show I enjoyed it. I just had to remind myself this came out in 1933. I think they made him a bit more family friendly for tv. :)
  • If Something Happens To Me - I like this authors thrillers, they don't bore me or move slowly. I did guess a bit of what was going on and who the  baddy was but it was still good.
  • Kilt Trip - This was a decent contemporary romance.
  • Run Away - Participating in a readathon and the prompt was for a friend to pick my book and so this was the book chosen. I enjoyed it though at first I wasn't sure if I would and it was confusing at times. My first time reading this author but I think I will be trying more of his thrillers. It also takes a book off my own shelves so that is good. :)

Currently reading

  • While Still We Live - I haven't had a lot of time to read on this one but I did manage a bit so I am on page 65 of 444.
  • Bar - 20 - First in the Hopalong Cassidy series for June on the Range a western readathon. It's a lot different from the tv show. I am going to have to watch the show and refresh my memory as this hopalong is a bit cras and rude...lol.
  • Storm Front - Rereading this with Barb and Amy, a girl subscribed to my channel. :)
  • Scarewave - Spooky stories about a town, its good so far.

Week in Review #84 ~ I can't believe it's June!

Rain, rain and more rain, I am so tired of the rain. And that is about all I have to say.

Have a great week and happy reading!

Books I have added

  • Blood & Mascara - This is a sort of crime noir style mystery an I was curious.

Books read last week

  • August of the Zombies - This finished out a trilogy. It was cute.
  • The Lumbering Giants of Windy Pine - Fun middle grade horror.
  • Tom Bites Back - This series is a bit silly but cute.
  • Friend or UFO - A fun series that I am now caught up on. :)

Currently reading

  • The Case of the Velvet Claw - The first book in the Perry Mason series. I have collected several last year and now it's time I start reading them. I will admit that this Perry is a bit more morally gray than the tv version! This is from 1933 so a bit in the Crime Noir time frame I think,
  • While Still We Live - I am still reading on this one. I didn't get to it much last month so hoping to get a bit done in it this coming week. Spy thriller about a young lady who gets accused of being a spy during WWII.
  • Secrets in the Dark - Book two in the Blackbird Trilogy.
